Guide

Return visits on one website

The script can keep a visitor id in local storage for that site. The id is hashed with a salt that belongs to the site before it is stored. Raw IP addresses are not stored. The panels are examples of the report layout. They are not a live customer account.

What a visitor record contains

A visit can include the page path, referrer origin, campaign tags, device, browser, operating system, and country. Country is taken from the address when the visit starts, and the address is then discarded. City is not collected. The script does not set a cookie, and it does not follow a person onto other companies’ sites.

Use case. A publisher checks whether a new article is being opened from India, without keeping the visitor’s address.

Limits

  • This is not cookie-free tracking in the sense of having no visitor identifier. The identifier lives in local storage.
  • Do Not Track can be honored from website settings. It is on by default.
  • An excluded path or IP is not written as a page view.
